(back to This I Believe)

I have been best friends with Nicole for 7 years. Near the end of the school year in kindergarten, I would start visiting my new classroom for first grade. One of the other girls who was coming into the same first grade class I was going into was Nicole. I already had a best friend in kindergarten who was moving to a different school, and I was not ready for a new best friend. Nicole and I started playing together at recess more and more as we got more comfortable with new friends.  Nicole and I met three other new friends in first grade. The five of us became really good friends and got really close.

When we made it to third grade, Nicole and I were the only girls left from our fivesome in first grade. Nicole and I got closer than we ever had been before in third grade. About half way through the school year, I decided to switch schools.

In fourth grade at my new school I met a lot of new girls, but none of them were like Nicole. None of the other girls fit with me like Nicole did. I became friends with a couple of new girls, but I didn’t really become close to any of them. When I got to fifth grade it was the same thing, it seemed like everyone already had a best friend, and I did too, she just wasn’t there. By the time I got to sixth grade, I tried to fit in with the other girls, we would hang out after school, and talk on the phone, but it wasn’t the same as when me and Nicole would hang out.

My old school’s middle school started in seventh grade. When I finished sixth grade, I decided to go back to my old school for the middle school. Nicole was going to the middle school too, so we would be in school together

I believe in friendship. During tough times, or bad grades, I know I always have someone to talk to.  Our friendship means more to me than anything, a thousand words could not describe the feeling of knowing if I fall I always have someone to catch me.   I am so thankful to have a friend like Nicole in my life.
