(back to This I Believe)

When I was in sixth grade the sixth graders took a trip up to New York. When we got on the plane we were all excited and nervous at the same time. When I got onto the plane I was a little uneasy but thought that it was nothing. While we were on the plane I started to get a bad headache and thought it was because of the high altitude and my ears just needed to pop but my headache never went away. When we landed I didn’t tell anybody about my headache because I thought it was nothing. We got into a van that was going to take us to our hotel and I got a little nauseous so I had some water. We got to the hotel and we went up to our rooms. I was feeling a bit better.

We started to walk the streets and explore New York. We stopped to eat in Little Italy at this fancy restaurant. I ordered a very big and tasty pasta and a key lime pie. When I ate all of that food we went off to go back to our hotel  and I was a bit nauseous again and thought that I overindulged with my food and didn’t tell anybody. We got back to our hotel and I felt sick.

The next morning I went down to eat breakfast but didn’t eat that much food because I still didn’t feel well. We went down into the lobby to plan who was going to lead our group throughout New York. While we were planning I felt like I was going to puke so I ran into the bathroom and splashed some cold water on my face. I came out of the bathroom and told my teachers they said I could stay in the hotel room if everyone else was ok with it. Everybody was ok with changing the plan so I could stay in the hotel room. I slept for most of the day.

The next morning I felt fine because my friends and classmates were ok to change their plans so I could get some rest and get better. I think that after this whole experience we got to know each other better we able to relate to each other better. Now we are great friends. With everybody making such a small decision this has made my trip so much more enjoyable.

I believe in the power of friendship.
