Ideas for Wording your I AM CAREER PRESENTATION Invitations

This night is a celebration of your year-long accomplishments, a chance for you to give a professional presentation, and a thank you to your networking contacts for how much they inspired us all. The more personal you make your invitation (e.g. with specifics about the person, your site visit, what you learned, etc.), the more likely they are to attend. Send the invitation through email and CC Julie to receive credit. In your invitation:

Writing the invitation to your EXPERTS:

  1. Introduce the purpose for writing and re-express your gratitude for their guidance. Examples (but you can get more personal than these!):
    1. Thank you for your participation in my I AM Career Exploration Project. Your guidance and advice have helped me complete my capstone project in my final year at The Montessori School of Raleigh, and I know now that [field] is what I want to pursue in my career.
    2. Thank you so much for helping me explore [field]. Your guidance and advice was so inspiring to me as I completed my capstone project and my final year at The Montessori School of Raleigh.
    3. (FUTURE SITE VISIT): Thank you so much for helping me explore [field]. We are so excited about our upcoming site visit. Your guidance and advice will be invaluable to me as I complete my capstone project and my final year at The Montessori School of Raleigh.
  2. Give invitation with clear event name, date, and time. Examples:
    1. As a culmination of our year's work, my fellow 9th years and I are giving a presentation on Thursday, May 26 at 7pm on our year-long career exploration. I would like to invite you to the evening presentation as a special guest, since you have played such a huge role in my project. (FUTURE SITE VISIT could say "since you will play such a huge role...")
    2. I would like to invite you to attend the 9th grade I Am Project Presentation. It will be at the MSR Middle School at 7pm on Thursday, May 26, followed by a short, informal reception. It would be my pleasure for you to see how much your help has contributed to my I Am Project.
  3. Tell them the address. Example:
    1. Our presentation will take place on our campus at 408 Andrews Chapel Road, Durham, NC 27703.
  4. Thank them and ask them to RSVP with a note about dessert and coffee being provided. Example:
    1. Dessert and coffee will be provided after the presentation. Please RSVP to Julie Ruble at jr@msr.org if you can attend. Thank you so much, again, for all your help!
  5. Close the email professionally.

So your whole email might read something like:

Dear Mr. Jabral,

Thank you for your participation in my I AM Career Exploration Project. Your guidance and advice were so inspiring to me as I completed my capstone project and my final year at The Montessori School of Raleigh. I learned so much from touring the genetics lab and seeing how genomes are sequenced. As a culmination of our year's work, my fellow 9th years and I are giving a presentation on Thursday, May 26 at 7pm on our year-long career exploration. I would like to invite you to the evening presentation as a special guest, since you have played such a huge role in my project. Our presentation will take place on our campus at 408 Andrews Chapel Road, Durham, NC 27703. Dessert and coffee will be provided after the presentation. Please RSVP to Julie Ruble at jr@msr.org (or by hitting "reply all"). Thank you so much, again, for all your help!

Sincerely,

Jacob Doe

Dear Vickie,

Thank you for being my site visit mentor in my I AM Career Exploration Project. Your guidance and advice have helped me complete my capstone project in my final year at MSR. I learned so much from touring the genetics lab and seeing how genomes are sequenced, and that wouldn't have been possible without you arranging transportation and accompanying us on my site visit. As a culmination of our year's work, my fellow 9th years and I are giving a presentation on Thursday, May 26 at 7pm on our year-long career exploration. I would like to invite you to the evening presentation as a special guest, since you have played such an important in my project. Our presentation will take place at the middle school. Dessert and coffee will be provided after the presentation. Please RSVP to Julie Ruble at jr@msr.org (or by hitting "reply all"). Thank you so much, again, for all your help!

Sincerely,

Jacob Doe
